Should We Require `Fire-Safe' Smokes?
For almost a century, public debate about fire safety and cigarettes has included discussions about making "fire-safe" cigarettes, which use special banded papers that are self-extinguishing unless a smoker puffs on them. For decades, attempts to pass federal and state laws mandating the sale of fire-safe cigarettes failed, despite claims that unattended cigarettes spark fires that kill an average of 700 to 900 people nationwide each year.

More cigarettes are manufactured by two different companies. In the United States and for most countries in the Western Europe area, it is manufactured by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. In Eastern Europe and Asia, More cigarettes are manufactured by the Japan Tobacco Company. Even when cigarette advertising was legal in the United States, More cigarettes were not heavily advertised as most others were. The brand rarely appeared on television, radio or print ad campaigns. The reason behind this marketing technique was a rather simple one. More cigarettes were targeted for a very specific audience. Most often, only very financially well-off smokers choose the expensive More as their brand. This small target audience was found to read expensive magazines as well; it was in those types of magazine that the company would advertise the More brand. Mores are made with top quality tobacco blends and are thought to be very classy looking. Regarding the More cigarettes that are manufactured for the United States and Western European countries, the only version that is offered is the original 120 millimeter Classic brand. For the Eastern European countries and Asia, the More Red Soft Pack and the More Menthol is also offered.
