Should We Require `Fire-Safe' Smokes?
For almost a century, public debate about fire safety and cigarettes has included discussions about making "fire-safe" cigarettes, which use special banded papers that are self-extinguishing unless a smoker puffs on them. For decades, attempts to pass federal and state laws mandating the sale of fire-safe cigarettes failed, despite claims that unattended cigarettes spark fires that kill an average of 700 to 900 people nationwide each year.

Peter I

Peter 1 cigarettes are manufactured by the J.T. International Company. They are mainly produced in facilities located in Russia. This brand of cigarette is the first ever to be produced in that country. It is the top selling brand of the medium priced cigarettes in Russia. Certain tobacco regulations in Russia prevent the cigarettes from being named with the words light, ultra light and mild. They must choose other words that fit the statutes of the laws. The J.T. International Company had scientists from Germany and Switzerland word together to create the blend of tobaccos that are used for this brand. The light versions are fairly new and come in distinct packages that are white with vertical stripes on its side. The packs of cigarettes produced can not be mistaken as a product of any other country other than Russia, as it has Russian writing and a Russian symbol on it. One special feature that this cigarette has is its charcoal filter. The reason that some smokers highly desire a cigarette with a charcoal filter is because this type of filter is thought to trap many of the potentially harmful substances that cotton filters do not catch.
