Winston cigarettes are manufactured by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Because R.J. Reynolds had originally established itself in the city of Winston-Salem, North Carolina in the United States, this cigarette was named after the street. This brand of cigarette was created in the year 1954, which makes it fairly new in comparison to many other brands that have been around for far longer. Being such a quality cigarette, its popularity grew very quickly in the United States. In the years 1966 to 1972, this brand was the number one top seller in the States. More recently, its rating went down slightly, however it still holds strong, ranked as number six in the market. Considering the amazing competition, this brand has done amazingly well. Winston cigarettes have a slogan of its own, which states “Leave the bull behind”. The meaning of this phrase is to define the fact that this particular brand is different than others by offering an additive free product. Additives are often added to cigarettes in an attempt to control the burn rate of the paper and to improve the flavor. Despite those facts, Winston continues to remain the one cigarette that has steadfastly chosen to never use those additives.
